About Maple Grove Charter School
Meet one of the most innovative and hands-on rural schools
Maple Grove Charter School, located in Hamburg, Wisconsin, has a long history of providing rural education with a unique focus on hands-on learning. Officially established in 1904 (with history dating back to 1870), this small charter school is known for its innovative programs that integrate agriculture, environmental sciences, and practical life skills into the curriculum. From maple syrup tapping to trout farming, to caring for chickens and rabbits, Maple Grove offers students real-world experiences that go beyond traditional classroom instruction.
With support from the Maple Grove Foundation, the school continues to modernize while maintaining its rural roots. The Foundation funds a variety of programs and capital improvements to ensure that students receive a high-quality education, making Maple Grove an important educational hub for families in the surrounding communities.
Principials and teachers love Maple Grove Charter School
“As the principal of Maple Grove Charter School, I can’t begin to express how grateful we are for the Maple Grove Foundation and the difference they’ve made in the lives of our learners and staff. Their support shows up in so many ways—both big and small—that truly make our school feel like a family.
Thanks to the Foundation, we’ve been able to update our building with a beautiful fresh coat of paint, keeping our historic school both warm and welcoming. They’ve helped provide the “extras” that mean so much—like free popcorn for every student and staff member each month, special Christmas gifts that bring joy during the holidays, and funding for field trips and classroom materials that make learning come alive.
Their generosity has touched every part of our school. The Fromm History unit in 3rd grade, for example, wouldn’t have been possible without their help. The Foundation’s willingness to support everything from curriculum needs to kitchen supplies—and even a grant writer who helped secure a $500,000 state grant—shows just how deeply they care about Maple Grove’s success.
What makes it even more special is that their work isn’t just about finances—it’s about heart. The Foundation helps our little school dream big, and their kindness reminds our learners and staff every day that they are part of something truly special.”
